Clean & Hygienic Public Places
Making India's Streets and Public Spaces Sanitation-Safe
Making streets, markets and public spaces sanitation-safe.

THE PROGRAM
Infrastructure that keeps working.
Markets, bus stands, streets, public parks and community spaces are where sanitation gaps become most visible to the public eye — and most damaging to public health. Saaf Sutra works to make these shared spaces cleaner and safer through a mix of public sanitation infrastructure, waste management systems, and community-led hygiene norms, in close coordination with urban and local governance bodies.
What we do
- Improve and maintain public toilets, waste collection points and drainage in public spaces
- Support community and municipal bodies in building last-mile solid waste management systems
- Run public hygiene and behaviour-change campaigns targeted at vendors, commuters and residents
- Pilot low-cost, replicable models for street- and market-level sanitation upkeep
- Partner with urban local bodies to embed successful models into municipal planning
Why public places
Public spaces are shared civic assets — how clean they are shapes daily public health outcomes and community pride alike. Because these spaces sit within municipal and Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban mandates, successful Saaf Sutra models here have a direct, credible pathway into government adoption and policy influence.
Build a model that lasts.
